Arctic Heat Pumps work on an air to water principal (hydronic). This means the heat pump will remove heat from the outdoor air down to -30 degrees Celsius and transfer this heat through a refrigerant heat exchanger process to a heating fluid used inside the home (typically a glycol/water mix). This process can be easily reversed in hot weather as well, removing the heat inside the home and transferring it through the heat exchanger to the outside atmosphere. Arctic Heat Pumps feature a new Panasonic enhanced vapor injection variable speed compressor. This new technology allows the compressor to run at variable speeds depending on heat demand meaning less start-stop wear and tear on the compressor, no need for startup capacitors and up to 30% less energy used compared to other heat pump compressors. The EVI system improves the efficiency of the condenser/evaporator heat exchange process at cold temperatures allowing the system to remain efficient at temperatures other systems simply can't handle. The outdoor unit contains everything you need in one case (monobloc). This results in no need to hire a refrigeration mechanic. All you will require is an electrical connection with an outdoor rated disconnect (weatherproof). The system requires 240 VAC connection with a 20, 30, 40 Amp dedicated breaker depending on the size of the Arctic Heat Pump. The heat pumps are available in three sizes: MAFP020A(2.5ton), MAFP040A(4ton) and MAFP060A(5ton). Up to 10 units may be run in parallel allowing even large homes and buildings to take advantage of the energy saving benefits of Arctic Heat Pumps.
A buffer tank plays an integral role in a hydronic heating system. It acts as a "battery" for the hydronic system, storing glycol/water heated by the heat pump. This allows the heated or cooled fluid to circulate through the home without the need for the heat pump to constantly start and stop (short cycling), reducing wear and tear on the compressor. The buffer tank also allows the heating fluid to be isolated from the potable hot water used in the home when using a heat exchanger.
These new composite hydronic tanks are made of a polypropylene core wrapped in fiberglass and high heat resin with high R value closed cell foam. Weighing roughly half the weight of a steel tank and will not rust! Features 4 stainless steel ports, thermo well, drain, vent and vacuum breaker. Available in sizes between 22Gallons up to 55 Gallons.
The AltSource is the ideal choice for a heat pump buffer tank as it comes available with a digital hydronic controller and automatic backup heating elements up to 29KW to continue to heat your home should the outside temperature drop below -30 degrees Celsius. The 160' coil allows for almost instantaneous hot water or can be used as a water preheater for an instant hot water system for high demand applications.
